Project Update: NVA – Merrimack Veterinary Hospital
DJSA has completed a new ground-up veterinary hospital at 106 Herrick St. in Merrimack, NH, delivering a purpose-built facility designed to support high-volume clinical operations and an expanded range of pet care services.
The project reflects a growing demand across New England for modern veterinary facilities that balance operational efficiency with an enhanced client experience. The building program is organized around a centralized clinical core, with clearly defined public, medical, and staff zones to streamline workflow and improve day-to-day functionality.
The front-of-house includes a welcoming reception and waiting area accessed through multiple vestibules, which help manage circulation and reduce congestion during peak hours. The hospital features 10 exam rooms positioned along the perimeter of the clinical zone, enabling efficient patient intake and direct access to treatment spaces.
At the center of the facility is a large treatment area that anchors the clinical operations. Supporting spaces, including surgical suites with adjacent prep areas, dental, imaging (X-ray), laboratory, pharmacy, and recovery, are arranged to provide clear adjacencies and minimize staff travel distances. This layout supports a continuous flow from exam to diagnosis to treatment, a key consideration in modern veterinary design.
In addition to core medical services, the building includes grooming, an indoor pet relief area, and a dedicated open play/daycare space, allowing the operator to expand its service offerings. Back-of-house functions are equally integrated, with administrative offices, staff break areas, laundry, and storage incorporated throughout to support efficient operations.
